As usual, we are on the right path when we provide more light than fire, and as Christians seek to separate themselves from the foolish threats of Koran burning by a few, a group of leaders under the auspices of American Bible Society are sending the right message in a full page NY Times ad tomorrow: Illuminate the Bible.
I regret that, since it appears that Pastor Jones has back away from his plans to burn Korans, this may give this publicity stunt another day of media play. But the motivation and the sentiment are right, even if the public relations may end up being a bit off.
An impressive list of Christian leaders have signed the ad, including friends, colleagues and clients: Chuck Colson, Whitney Kuniholm, Gabe Lyons, David Neff, Rob Hoskins,and Steve Douglass; and a diverse group of others from throughout the U.S. Christian community.
